A Home with History and Heart
The Cottage has stood on the croft for generations. Long ago, it was a modest croft house, lived in and loved by island families whose days were shaped by the land and the sea. As time moved on and crofts were joined together, people gradually settled in the nearby villages, and the old cottage found a new purpose as part of the farm steading, storing feed, tools, and the quiet memories of the past.
When we restored The Cottage, we wanted its next chapter to honour everything it once was.
The original building had a small half‑loft, and today that heritage lives on in the form of a bright mezzanine bedroom. Positioned where the loft once sat, it now features large Velux windows that gaze out over the surrounding landscape and down toward the rocky coastline. At the top of the staircase, a little seating nook welcomes you—bathed in soft natural light and perfect for morning coffee or a quiet moment with a book.
Downstairs, the living area rises to full height, creating an airy, open space. A roof Velux window pours in light from above, while two deep-set original windows—framed by the thick stone walls of the old croft—add warmth and character. Thanks to excellent insulation and air-source underfloor heating, The Cottage stays cosy and inviting in every season, whether the wind is wild off the Atlantic or the sun is shining across the fields.
The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need: oven, hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, and even a hot-water tap for quick teas and coffees. A compact folding table and stools make dining easy, and just off the small hallway sits the shower room. At the entrance, a practical porch awaits muddy boots and weatherproofs—essential companions for island adventures. Opposite, you’ll find your own private seating area with a sheltered walled space perfect for barbecuing (BBQ available on request).
The mezzanine bedroom can be arranged as either a twin or a super‑king, giving you the flexibility to settle in exactly as you prefer. There is also a sofa bed in the living room for additional guests. For comfort and convenience, the cottage includes a flat‑screen TV and internet access.
The Cottage is more than a place to stay—it’s a gentle blend of old and new, history and comfort, offering its guests the rare pleasure of experiencing modern island living within the walls of a home shaped by generations.
